Art Studio 10 - a historical painting studio in the heart of Florence.

The Studio is run by artists Giannina and Martha who also work within the studio, who offer mentorship and instruction to artists wishing to refine their skills in a nurturing and productive space. Drawing from their classical training, the duo gives objective, classical critique on the subjects of the figure, still life and portrait. Art Studio 10 is one of the original historical 19th century artist studios in Florence. The studio boasts natural north light, flexibility of training hours, topics and community events such as regular evening drawings.

Topics offered in our art courses

Classical Instruction:

  • Painting from life / life model

  • Sight-size exercises: introduction to the method

  • Anatomy & structure: Constructive approach

  • Explaining form through light: light forms

  • Gesture & Movement: dynamic figure drawing

  • Still Life: composition, pattern, design & arrangement, pictorial tools for storytelling

Giannina Beatrice Mellema

Is a German-Dutch painter based in Florence. After several years of training, she decided to open a space where exchange and learning played a core part. Experimentation and research in the medium of painting are a necessity.

Martha Helga Hornig

Martha is a German/Serbian painter based in Florence.

After a classical education she decided to open a studio where she now works and teaches, reflecting on her previous training and evolving her understanding of visual art.

Currently in her work she explores the aspects of human expression , integrating them in the pictorial language.
